While some companies prefer to play it safe with tried-and-tested luxury resorts and elegant gala dinners, others challenge us to create experiences that surprise, inspire, and leave a lasting impression. After all, there is only so much one can do with five-star hotels and gourmet meals. Sometimes the greatest luxury isn't found inside a ballroom, but beneath an endless sky.
Those are the programs we love most.
As a long-time planning partner for this client, we've come to know their various employee groups remarkably well. Every proposal begins with one question: What kind of experience will resonate most with these participants? Matching the destination to the people—not the other way around—is what transforms a good incentive trip into an unforgettable one.
This year's winners were a young, energetic group that had already experienced several adventurous incentive programs. The bar had been set high. We needed something extraordinary.
Then inspiration struck.
What if we traded city skylines for towering sandstone cliffs? Black-tie dinners for hiking boots? Luxury shopping for some of the most spectacular landscapes on Earth?
How about Utah?
Our client loved the idea immediately, and before long we were crafting an adventure through some of America's most breathtaking national parks.
Into Utah's Red-Rock Kingdom
The group of twelve flew into Salt Lake City, where they spent the first evening enjoying one of the city's cultural treasures—a performance by the renowned Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
The following morning, the adventure truly began.
With road-trip playlists ready and hiking gear packed, we headed south toward Zion National Park. The four-hour drive felt less like transportation and more like a moving postcard. Around every bend appeared another astonishing panorama of crimson cliffs, sculpted mesas, soaring sandstone towers, and vast desert valleys stretching toward the horizon.
Utah has a way of making you feel wonderfully small.
Our home for the evening was Zion National Park Lodge, perfectly situated within the park itself. From there, the group tackled one of Zion's iconic hikes toward Angel's Landing. Even without venturing onto the final narrow ridge, the views overlooking Zion Canyon were nothing short of spectacular. Standing high above the canyon floor, everyone paused—not to catch their breath, but simply to absorb the moment.
The Best Meal Is the One You've Earned
Hours of hiking create a remarkable appetite.
Dinner at the lodge's Red Rock Grill featured hearty regional favorites, including bison meatloaf and Navajo tacos served on warm fry bread. After a full day on the trails, it may as well have been a Michelin-starred feast. Sometimes extraordinary meals have less to do with white tablecloths than with sharing stories of the day's adventures around the table.
Hoodoos Under the Stars
Day three arrived almost too quickly.
Our next destination was Bryce Canyon National Park, only two hours away but unlike anywhere else on Earth. Fueled by a hearty breakfast, the group set off on the challenging eight-mile Fairyland Loop Trail, winding through a surreal landscape of towering hoodoos—nature's whimsical sandstone sculptures rising from the canyon floor like an ancient city carved by time.
By late afternoon, pleasantly exhausted, we checked into the historic Lodge at Bryce Canyon, just a short stroll from the canyon rim.
As darkness settled over the plateau, another unforgettable experience awaited. A National Park ranger guided the group through an evening of stargazing and astronomy. Far from city lights, the night sky revealed thousands upon thousands of stars, reminding us that some of the world's greatest shows require no stage at all.
Canyonlands Steals the Show
Time was passing far too quickly.
The Colorado Plateau is home to one of the planet's greatest concentrations of natural wonders, creating nine national parks across four states. Utah alone boasts five of them, making it impossible to see everything in a single journey.
For our final national park, we chose Canyonlands.
At the beginning of the trip, we had asked the participants a simple question.
"Where do you think America's most impressive canyon is?"
Without hesitation, everyone answered, "The Grand Canyon."
Several days later, after exploring Canyonlands' endless maze of deep gorges, towering mesas, and sweeping overlooks—including the unforgettable Mesa Arch—we asked the same question once more.
This time the smiles came first.
"Canyonlands," someone replied.
The rest of the group nodded in unanimous agreement.
Ending on a High Note
Every memorable adventure deserves an unforgettable finale.
After several exhilarating days on the trails, it was time to exchange hiking boots for well-earned luxury.
Our final evening was spent at Amangiri, Aman Resorts' extraordinary sanctuary hidden among the desert mesas of southern Utah. Blending almost seamlessly into its surroundings, the resort feels less like a hotel than a natural extension of the landscape itself.
The farewell dinner featured the resort's "Spirit of the Journey" tasting menu—a beautifully curated culinary experience celebrating the traditions of five Indigenous tribes. Navajo fry bread, pickled cactus, and corn cheesecake were just a few of the memorable flavors that brought the American Southwest to life one final time.
True to its exclusive reputation, Amangiri is intentionally secluded. The following morning, a waiting helicopter lifted the group above the dramatic canyon country, providing one last breathtaking perspective before flying them to Phoenix for their journey home.
It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable adventure.
